Inking and Fan Art

Hello anyone and everyone! I realized that I've been so focused on making original material that I haven't even showcased my fan art. I've also got an artistic update! I recently took up inking in an effort to broaden my style a little bit, or to give it a bit more depth I should say. I'm hoping to refine my style a bit before I start work on a couple Dragonball Doujins or fan manga for you sole english out there.

I'm a fan of a lot of media, I've always liked Spiderman, his story has inspired me artistically and his transformation alongside the muscular characters of Dragonball inspired me to stay healthy and even lead me to bodybuilding when I was a teenager. These series have really infinitely affected my life artistically and otherwise. Another instance? Gwen Stacy and Peter Parker, I loved that dynamic, their relationship was dynamite and I thought, "Wow. I hope I meet someone like that". I think comics and shows and just media in general effect us so much more than we give them all credit, not only that but they can affect us positively too. Tangent aside, I'm proud to be a fan artist though it may not have seemed like it based on my first couple posts.

This first piece is a very recent one, it's a character from a literature based fan continuation of the Dragonball series (you can read it here.) Yes, fan art for a fan work! Artists need to help each other out and I was happy to voluntarily draw this character. The pose in that piece is referenced from a piece by Young Jijii, a fellow artist and idol of mine.

The second piece is my first official foray into ink territory, it was fun to do and I'll continue messing with inking until it becomes second nature to me.

Like I said earlier, Dragonball isn't my only inspiration. Spiderman and more specifically Todd McFarlane era Spiderman were also inspirations. That piece is outdated and I could do it a hundred times better now, but you get the idea.

I grew up with DB and DBZ, it was cool and action packed and made boring ole home life fun and adventurous, I contribute my vast imagination to Dragonball in a lot of ways.

Shows and comics weren't my only inspirations, I'm one of the biggest music freaks in the world I think. I know so much about bands, songs, members, lyrics, notes, albums, compositions, and more, that I almost amaze myself. I freehanded these band logos as an ode to them. As you can see, fontwork is another strong suit of mine. I like all kinds of music, except most pop and country. Metallica, 311, The Urge, Aerosmith, Slightly Stoopid, Sublime, The Police, Rage Against The Machine, Disturbed, The Beastie Boys, The Beach Boys, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jan and Dean, The Black Keys, Sugar Ray, The Outfield, Stone Temple Pilots, Velvet Revolver, Slash, Guns N Roses, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, No Doubt, Smash Mouth, Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Nicks, Heart, The Eagles, Don Henley, Kavinsky, Daft Punk, Electric Youth, Madonna, Fallout Boy, The Killers, Garbage, The B-52's, U2, Muse, crap...I could go on forever!
Anyway, as you can see, I'm a man of many inspirations and that'll be all for today! :D

Status and "Some Kind Of Joke" Series

I've been throwing around a lot of original ideas and I've already come up with a pretty linear basis for a concept I'm working on. I currently have one character lined out and another still conceptual, I'm also working on the first characters design at this time. Inspired by things like Devil May Cry, Capcom, Dead Or Alive, Soul Calibur and more, but with a more unique design from me. I'm working on mastering digital art as well, so that I can crossover into that medium as well. As an artist, I'd like to progress and attain as much artistic skill as possible. In addition to learning how to make digital art, I hope to one day be able to sculpt resin statues, so that's another artistic skill-based goal of mine. Recently, I've become very inspired by Avalanche Software and their artists, their styles are really extensive and I'd love to be able to work with art to the extent that they do, because their work is really fantastic. If anyone who reads this gets a chance, I recommend you check out their blog.

Aside from that...I'm happy to announce the "Some Kind Of Joke" Series. Inspired by the AWOLNATION song of the same name, music, life, love, and more. The "Some Kind Of Joke" series is a series of random pieces I hope to use as a creative outlet incorporating emotion, feeling, and inspiration. I'm hoping the series will push me out of my comfort zone and allow me to put my heart on my sleeve for just a little while. I'd like to do the pieces on personal sketch cards or in a similar smaller format, as that is a different medium and allow for more of a challenge since there's lesser space. I don't know how many pieces will be in the "Some Kind Of Joke" series, if I wanted to be logical I'd say at least 3 to 5 pieces, possibly more if all goes well. The "Some Kind Of Joke" series is really my first original series of pieces so it's pretty exciting that I've already sort of got an idea of what I'm doing. It's really something to try and get my feet off the ground original material-wise.

With any luck, the "Some Kind Of Joke" series will span different formats, digital and traditional primarily. I might possibly try and explore other forms of art such as painting as well. As a project, the goal is to broaden my horizons so hopefully I can try a few new things here and there, while also creating something kind of inspired and focused, yet original. I'm currently kind of following this idea of moving forward, progression, going forth, changing things, making an impact, and ultimately achieving things. That's really my current mind set. There's a lot that I've wanted to do for a long time and I'm tired of putting it off and waiting, it's now or never you know. Be good to yourself when no one else will, go out of your way for yourself and not only others, because you aren't protecting your interests if you don't. Go forward, move ahead, it's never too late. Life is this ever changing entity, vast and unending, people leave it right and left, but you've got to make the choice to leave something behind, something worth your life as a whole. That's the plan. So here's to the future!

Project Overview: 5-3-13

Hello anyone and everyone! Technicolor-Dream here with a quick introduction and an overview of my current artistic endeavors. I'm Technicolor-Dream, better known as Yamcha-Wolf on Deviant Art. Yes, I definitely need a name change on DA. I'll spare you the gory details on myself, but I will say that I'm an artist who specializes in Dragonball art, Marvel art, fan art, etc etc. I started this blog in an effort to broaden my horizons as an artist by doing more original work of my own and thus, posting it here for whomever to see. I've done fan art since an early age, it never really occurred to me to do anything original until just a few years ago and even then, the "originals" I did were stylistic derivatives of already existent universes. So in essence; I carried on my usual artistic formula of doing primarily fan art, tributes, and some stray conceptual stuff for many, many years...until now.

I've recently been inspired to strive to create original material, not just characters and things, settings, characters, universes, the whole thing. In addition to my regular fare, I hope to truly expand my palette for original creations, and I hope to do that through this blog. If those of you who happen upon this blog will bare with me, as this will be a major testing ground for my original art, if you're willing to give feedback or would like to ask me questions then feel free. In addition to my encouraging watchers from Deviant Art and real life friends, this blog is inspired by the efforts of Young Jijii, best known for his phenomenal fan continuation of Dragonball. I'm very excited for this blog and I think a lot of creative good will come out of it. I look forward to looking back in the future and seeing my progress with primarily my original work, but my fan fare as well. In addition to original work, I hope to experiment with styles and make fan art for more series and things, series like Zelda, Super Smash Bros, Dragonball Z Films, and more.

I'm Technicolor-Dream and that'll be all for today. Art is amazing and I hope to express my vast imagination in a way that explores my interests and intrigues many. Thanks for reading and I look forward to updating this blog further on a regular basis. This is the start of a good thing and I have high hopes that it will go far. Here's to a new artistic chapter!
